About Pre-World War II German Currency

Before World War II, Germany had various currency notes. Here are some of them:

1. German Papiermark (1914-1924)

The German Papiermark was the official currency of Germany during and after World War I. Due to hyperinflation, it became nearly worthless by the early 1920s.

The Rentenmark was introduced during the hyperinflation crisis to stabilize the currency. It was backed by mortgages on agricultural and industrial land.
